The Economic Burden of Drug Resistance in the US

June 15, 2006
APUA has entered a partnership with bioMérieux, a leading international diagnostics company, to implement a research project which is expected to produce the first in-depth analysis of the burden of resistant infections in US hospitals and encourage cost-effective interventions to control the problem. This study, "Measuring the Economic Burden of Drug Resistance in the US," is funded by an unrestricted educational grant from bioMérieux and will support APUA in establishing a think tank of advisors comprised of national and international experts in the field of microbiology, pharmacy, clinical medicine and economics. Their findings will be offered for publication in peer-reviewed journals and serve as policy guidance for legislators, health care provider groups, patients and consumers.
