STATUS OF ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE
Antibiotic resistance problems in The Gambia stem from:

Lack of regulation in human use

Lack of regulation in agricultural use
-
Lack of surveillance of antibiotic use and resistance
-
Lack of updated antibiotic use and treatment guidelines
-
Lack of continuing medical education on antibiotic use for prescribers
These problems challenge the ability to effectively treat infectious diseases that are prevalent in The Gambia, such as acute respiratory infections.
CHAPTER OVERVIEW
APUA Gambia was established in 2005.
Chapter Objectives and Priorities:
APUA Gambia’s main priority is to raise awareness among key stakeholders about the menace of antimicrobial resistance.
CHAPTER ACTIVITIES
APUA Gambia has been involved in advocacy, conferences and poster sessions, the development of peer-reviewed publications, and collaboration with other organizations.
