STATUS OF ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE
Antibiotic resistance problems in Honduras stem from:

Lack of access to appropriate antimicrobial therapy

Lack of regulation in human use

Lack of regulation in agricultural use
-
Lack of surveillance of antibiotic use and resistance
-
Lack of updated antibiotic use and treatment guidelines
-
Lack of continuing medical education on antibiotic use for prescribers
-
Lack of microbiological lab capacity/lab training/diagnostic tools
These problems challenge the ability to effectively treat infectious diseases that are prevalent in Honduras such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Acute Respiratory Infections, Diarrheal Diseases, Leptospirosis, and Influenza.

CHAPTER ACTIVITIES
APUA Honduras organizes meetings, conferences, and training courses about antibiotic use and resistance. They have also participated in research, consumer education, prescriber training, and development of audio-visual materials.
