Tufts Health Care Institute (THCI) and the Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics (APUA) are pleased to announce their partnership to educate practitioners and consumers about antibiotic resistance. This initiative is a follow-up project to the summit meeting, Collaboration in a Competitive Health Care Environment, July 26, 2001, organized by Tufts Health Care Institute (THCI) and supported by a grant from GlaxoSmithKline.
Tufts Health Care Institute (www.thci.org) is a leading, not-for-profit, independent source of educational programs on improving and managing health care. Founded in 1995, THCI’s mission is to enable physicians and other health care professionals, at all stages of their training and development, to practice comfortably and effectively in a high quality, cost-effective health care system. Founded in 1981 as a nonprofit organization, The Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics (www.apua.org) is the only organization in the world solely dedicated to strengthening society's defenses against infectious diseases through research and education on antibiotic use and antibiotic resistance.
- The partnership has created two fact sheets on the public health crisis of antibiotic resistance, one for patients/consumers and one for health care practitioners. The sheets will provide information to practitioners and patients for the purpose of improving antibiotic prescribing practices by clinicians and improved antibiotic use by patients/consumers.
- In addition, APUA is granting complimentary two-year memberships to the 21 participating organizations in THCI’s summit on Collaboration in a Competitive Health Care Environment. These special memberships entitle each organization to receive a copy of APUA’s quarterly newsletter and to reproduce scientific studies and articles from APUA’s newsletter utilizing their own communication outlets.
- We encourage you to visit our links to other resources for pediatricians and adult practitioners, and for patients/consumers.
