Visiting Boston

With over a dozen colleges and universities, seven major hospitals, numerous research institutes, and countless biotechnology companies, the Boston area represents one of the most vibrant biomedical research environments in the world.

Boston is host to several million visitors each year who come to see its numerous historical sites, world famous museums, and cultural events.  The city is easily navigated by foot, and there is abundant public transportation for those wishing to visit Cambridge and other surrounding cities.

Living in Boston

There is considerable variation, but most graduate students and postdocs choose to live outside of Boston proper, as housing in the surrounding communities tends to be more affordable than living in the city.  In addition to cheaper rent, living outside of the city generally affords free on-street parking. Somerville, Cambridge, and Brookline in particular have large, well-established student/postdoc communities and a vibrant social scene.

Commuting:

The Tufts Medical Sciences Campus is located in the Chinatown/Theater district of downtown Boston, a short walk from stations of the orange, green, red, and silver T lines.  The campus is also within walking distance to the South Station commuter rail and Bus terminals.  Though parking is not inexpensive ( ~$7.50 a day) the campus is also accessible by  car via route 90 from the west or route 93 from the north and south.
