Research Environment

Postdocs and Research Associates (Tufts postdocs with more than two years experience are automatically promoted to Research Associate) are the life blood of modern biomedical research.

The department does all it can to encourage postdocs in their research and to prepare them for their future careers as independent scientists and as educators.  Postdocs within the Department are strongly encouraged to present their results at the departmental seminar series.  In addition postdocs assist in educating our graduate students -both through informal interactions in the lab, and by serving as occasional "guest lecturers" in various graduate courses.

With over a dozen colleges and universities, seven major hospitals, numerous research institutes, and countless biotechnology companies, the Boston area represents one of the most vibrant biomedical research environments in the world.

The Biochemistry Department is part of the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Research.  The department occupies one floor of a series of interconnected buildings which are home to seven other basic science programs.  These buildings also house the Tufts School of Nutrition.  In addition to over 150 Tufts laboratories, postdocs have easy access to the clinical and basic science faculty of the Tufts New England Medical Center, a major teaching hospital.  The Medical Center, which lies across the street from the Sacker School includes the Floating Hospital for Children, a Dental School, and the Tupper Research Institute -all of which have close ties to the Sackler School.

Among the various Tufts Medical Campus schools and departments, there are numerous research seminars presented each day.  In addition there is an extremely broad range of expertise and equipment available for solving experimental problems.  For more information on some of the research resources please click here.
