East Asian Medicine
This module contains information about East Asian Medicine (EAM), particularly Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture and meditative exercise. Scientific evaluation and critical methodological issues affecting the study of these interventions are provided both for the purposes of exploring the evidence related to these interventions and for evaluating the appropriateness of a referral to a practitioner of East Asian Medicine. This module also addresses issues of prevalence and use of EAM within the US; costs of EAM; integration of EAM into biomedical settings; and the educational, credentials and licence requirements to practice. Special emphasis is placed on the use of EAM interventions in conditions such as cardiovascular health, smoking cessation and hypertension. See the side-bar menu on the left for specific topics.
