Organizations and Agencies in Nutrition

There are extensive organizations and agencies for practically every interest group and disease. In reviewing their information, remember to use the MedlinePlus Guide to Healthy Websurfing that gives guidance on what to look for when evaluating the quality of health information on web sites.

Government sites are the most balanced. Those sites with financial interests are less credible for obvious reasons. A number of the consumer sites have very useful practical information on nutrition.

Critical Thinking Questions for Using Information from Organizations and Agencies

  1. Are they financially uninvolved? What is their possible vested interest or bias?
  2. What data do they provide to support their position or policy?
  3. What is their history and political involvement?
