Selected Pain Conditions and CAM Therapies

Fibromyalgia

General fatigue symptoms benefit from stress reduction approaches, as well as from the energizing benefits of phototherapy, acupuncture, energy work and multimodal nutritional and hormonal supplementation. [20, 21]

Myofascial Pain (MFP)

Allopathic trigger point injections are a blunt form of acupuncture, the CAM treatment of choice for MFP. Stretching (yoga), massage, acupressure and myofascial release/craniosacral therapy (MFR/CST) are reported to be helpful, but these approaches have not been well documented. [22]

Migraine Headache

Biofeedback has long been a mainstay of treatment for migraine headache, and three specific supplements have also been proven helpful, namely magnesium, riboflavin (Vitamin B2), and the herb feverfew. [23]

Phantom Limb Pain

Some very preliminary work suggests that energy therapies may be especially effective. [24, 25]
