Dr. Fernando Sempértegui, Pediatrician Epidemiologist, is involved with studying the relationship among nutrition, growth, and infections in children. His research activities have contributed towards the understanding of the role of vitamin A, Zinc, and Selenium in children and adults, especially in Ecuadorian population suffering from chronic micronutrient deficiency. As the director of the Corporación Ecuatoriana de Biotecnología, he is transforming this institution into a research center to carry out collaborative studies on nutritional problems in Ecuador and the Andean region of Latin America.
