Dear Friends,
We are excited to welcome you to the homepage of the Tufts
University Initiative for the Forecasting and Modeling of
Infectious Disease (InForMID)!
We have formed this Initiative to foster new partnerships
and interdisciplinary collaborations, focusing on the complex
problems involved in the study of infectious disease. Over
the coming years, we will be hosting a variety of interdisciplinary
conferences and workshops, invited speakers from fields
of research that are traditionally unattached to the study
of disease, and providing a forum for the conception of
both experimental and theoretical collaborative investigations.
Our initiative involves researchers from a multitude of
fields: computer scientists, applied mathematicians, biostatisticians,
public health professionals, epidemiologists, medical researches,
and other 'life scientists'. We are working together to
build a common language among the various disciplines and
to create novel analytical approaches and computational
tools.
We hope this website will inspire you to propose new directions
for investigation, suggest topics for meetings and publications,
recruit students, propose new collaborations, or recruit
new members to already existing investigations. We are also
happy to invite members and affiliates to apply for funding
through the Initiative for support of these activities and
for the training of students and post-doctoral researchers
interested in broadening the scope of their research to
related, but otherwise inaccessible, fields. In this way
we hope to nurture a new generation of scientists with an
integrative perspective.
We believe that the broader the involvement from the greater
academic community, the more our Initiative will be able
to accomplish and the more all of us will be able to push
the study of infectious disease to new heights.
We hope you will join us in this exciting enterprise and
help us to build a strong and successful Initiative.
Sincerely,
