Center for Adaptation Genetics and Drug Resistance

Welcome to the Center for Adaptation Genetics and Drug Resistance. Established in 1992, the overall goal of the Center is to investigate common biologic themes in the adaptation responses of eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells to environmental signals and hazards.

A key area of adaptation is resistance to drugs used to treat infections and cancers. Thus, the drug resistance area is a paradigm for adaptation genetics. The work being done in the Center uses basic research in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, and pharmacology to define the molecular basis of the clinical problem.

Training exposes research scientists to techniques and concepts in prokaryotic and eukaryotic biology. Scientists at the Center attempt to use basic science to create new therapies or new approaches to treatments of infectious diseases and cancer in patients.
