Women in Medicine Symposium
The Hirsh Health Sciences Library is hosting an exhibition celebrating the lives and achievements of women in medicine since they first gained admission to American medical schools 150 years ago. "Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America's Women Physicians" will be on display on the 4th floor of the Sackler Center from April 13 - May 22, 2011.
TUSM will be holding a symposium in honor of the exhibit on May 5, 2011. The event will begin with the play, "A Lady Alone," about Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman doctor. A panel discussion will follow, with Dr. Diana Bianchi, Dr. Deborah Blazey-Martin, Dr. Elizabeth Matzkin and Dr. Randy Wertheimer speaking about their experiences as women in the medical field. The keynote address will be given by Dr. Vivian Pinn, Associate Director for research on Women's Health, Director Office of research on Women's Health, NIH. The night will end with a reception in the Hirsh Library and an opportunity to tour the exhibit.
