CARE II
(CARDIOVASCULAR ASSESSMENT RISK EXAMINATION II)
The CARE Study is a sub-study for former participants
of the Nutrition for Healthy Living (NFHL) Study to examine the
risk of heart disease in HIV-infected individuals.
Purpose: |
The purpose of this study is to determine
the effects of HIV antiretroviral treatments on levels of fats
and proteins in the blood, and risk of heart disease.

Eligibility
Criteria: |
Must have been a participant of the Nutrition for
Healthy Living (NFHL) Study.

Study
Requirements: |
Participants
will receive a cardiac CT Scan and a carotid ultrasound at enrollment
and upon completion of the study. |
Benefits: |
- Participants will receive information on the degree of
atherosclerosis in the carotid and coronary arteries, which
may be important in assessing current and future risk of
heart disease.
- A cash stipend will be given at each visit, totalling
$250 for completion of the study.
