Dr. Flanigan is Professor and Chief of the Division of Infectious
Diseases at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and at
the Lifespan Academic Medical Center in Rhode Island (includes Miriam
Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital). His expertise is on interventions
to improve treatment and reduce progression among HIV positive
individuals with a particular focus on women, substance abusers, and
incarcerated populations. He is the Principal Investigator of the Miriam
Hospital AIDS Clinical Trial Unit, on a HRSA SPNS grant to integrate
buprenorphine for opiate dependence into the HIV primary care setting,

substance abusers who are HIV-infected. He is Co-Director of the HIV and
Women's Core of the Lifespan/Tufts/Brown Center for AIDS Research and
Associate Director of the Brown University AIDS Program. Dr. Flanigan
will work to help other TNC investigators on issues related to the
recruitment and retention of drug using populations for research
