Developing a Plan for Replicating the Sophie Davis School for Biomedical Education in Boston
Description of Collaboration: With funding from the Boston Public Health Commission, the Center for Community Health Education, Research and Service (CCHERS) is leading a series of city and state-wide discussions potentially leading to the replication of the Sophie Davis Medical School model in Massachusetts. Sophie Davis is a medical school based at City College of New York that has for 30 years successfully recruited and trained inner city, low-income minority students into the medical profession. The activities for the next year include visiting Sophie Davis and convening a working group from the University of Massachusetts, the community, the state's four medical schools, and the Boston Public Schools to develop a blue-print and action plan for creating a school.

JD/MPH Dual Degree Program
Description of Collaboration: Tufts University School of Medicine and Northeastern University School of Law offer a Dual Degree program in Public Health and Law. Through a specialized curriculum, students who come to understand the role that advocacy and public action can play in reducing risk and ameliorating conditions that threaten community well-being. The JD/MPH is a three-and-one-half year program that educates students simultaneously in the disciplines of law and public health through a carefully tailored curriculum with courses to satisfy both degrees. The JD/MPH Program focuses on building partnerships between legal and public health professionals to help communities confront the challenge of a wide range of public health threats.
