MS in Pain Research, Education & Policy
Overview
The Masters in Pain Research Education and Policy is the first and only multidisciplinary postgraduate pain management program in the nation. The Pain program has three chief goals: education, research and policy.
Education: The program provides postgraduate training to students interested in learning about a multidisciplinary approach to pain management. Faculty with expertise in pain management educates students to go beyond clinical practice to become advocates, change agents and policy makers in the field.
Research: The Pain program participates in clinical research to determine the efficacy and effectiveness of pain therapies. The program also conducts studies to elucidate the ways in which cultural, socioeconomic, and social factors impact pain and its treatment.
Policy: Through policy change at the health care organization, state, and federal level, the Pain program strives to improve the health of all people suffering from painful conditions. The program uses a four-tiered approach to achieve this goal. First, the program creates multidisciplinary partnerships with educators who support the mission. Second, the program works with legislators and policy makers who develop and support legislation for effective pain management. Third, the program provides clinicians with the knowledge they need to advocate on behalf of patients everywhere. Finally, the Pain program provides patients with the knowledge to get the treatment they need.
