Natalie V. Zucker Research Grant

2008 NATALIE V. ZUCKER RESEARCH CENTER FOR WOMEN SCHOLARS
REQUEST FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS

We are pleased to announce that the Natalie V. Zucker Research Center for Women Scholars will be accepting applications for its ninth annual grant awards. Established through the generosity of Mrs. Natalie V. Zucker, the Center is devoted to furthering the research careers of women basic and clinical scientists at Tufts University School of Medicine and Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences. This is a request for applications for the Center's grants.

ELIGIBILITY: Junior faculty at TUSM/Sackler or the major affiliated hospitals (up to and inclusive of the rank of Assistant Professor) and postgraduate fellows at TUSM/Sackler, or at major affiliated hospitals, who are engaged in basic or clinical research are eligible. Residents are eligible to apply. The applicant's mentor or Department Chair must support her request. Previous awardees are ineligible. Faculty holding RO1 grants are also ineligible.

AMOUNT OF AWARD: A total of $30,000 will be awarded by the Center this year, distributed in individual grants according to the Selection Committee's judgment.

NATURE OF REQUEST: Applicants may request support for items or activities that will advance and benefit the applicant's own research career and professional stature. Examples include purchasing a scientific instrument; attending a research meeting; defraying tuition for scientific courses/additional degree; launching a pilot project; establishing a new research collaboration; or providing partial salary support for a research assistant. Funds may not be used as salary support for the award recipient.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Selections are based upon the following three criteria, which are equally weighed:
(1) academic potential, as judged by research experience to date and career plans;
(2) research career advancement impact, explain how this money will affect your career at this point?;
(3) scientific merit, as judged by project description

APPLICATION PROCESS:Please submit an original plus six copies of:

  • the completed application
  • up-to-date curriculum vitae
  • letter of support from mentor or Department Chair
  • budget: described detailed budget needs
