Established in 2007, the Office of Global Health seeks to provide the Tufts community with a clearinghouse of information and resources related to the practice of medicine internationally - a single point-of-entry for all health professional students seeking to obtain experiences abroad. Over the next few months, we hope to amass and organize additional information about Tufts and non-Tufts resources in the arena of global health, as well as general information about scholarships, traveling, security, and visas.

January: Start thinking about where you want to go. This is especially imortant if you are planning your own program. Check out the Opportunities section!
February: Contact professors and set specific goals and contact for your abroad site. Apply for financial aid (in some cases this will have to wait until you secure a project). Make sure you talk to all prospective advisors about logistics and money. Apply for pre-formed programs.
March: Confirm your main site (but it is a good idea to stay in touch with at least one other opportunity in case a problem arises later in the year with the project). Make sure you have a definite mentor in Boston and confirm a mentor at the site. Start reasearching tickets and come up with definite dates of travel (some people like to do some site seeing before or after their project). Apply for a travel Visa. April: Visit Travel Health Clinic for immunizations and to pick up travel medications. This is the latest you want to purchase tickets; they can get expensive closer to when you want to leave.
May-June: Start preparing for your project and travel. Global Health project begins!
