Students were in Panama for an eight week program, including a one week orientation to Panama, its health care system, culture, and history. All students lived with families in La Chorrera, a small city outside Panama City. Students had the opportunity to improve their Spanish and see pediatrics, ob-gyn, and many other cases including infectious disease. Seven weeks were spent working in both rural and urban clinics. From the rural health centers one day trips to health outposts in smaller villages were frequently held and occasional multi-day trips to far removed villages with semi-annual or annual medical care were made. Additionally some students voluntarily spent some night rotations with interns at the local hospital in La Chorerra, learning to deliver babies, and assist in C sections and other surgeries. Students on the 2006 trip were from the M’09 class:
Becky O’Neill
Danielle DePeralta
Giselle Cruz
Marjory Bravard
Michelle Ploutz

Father Muller Medical College is collaborating with the Public Health & Family Medicine Department in planning and directing the pre-clinical, clinical and public health experiences in India. Types of potential educational experiences range from lectures about the health, nutrition and socioeconomic situation in India, visits to local hospitals, community health centers, and other medical facilities, including traditional and uniquely Indian health settings such as Ashrams.
As for pre-clinical or public health experiences, students may be assigned to a community health center in the Mangalore area, where they will have the opportunity to work as volunteers in activities such as: Well Baby Clinic; Prenatal Care clinic; School health program; Immunization campaigns in rural posts; Environmental health programs.
