Article V: Representatives to the Council

Section 1: The Council shall appoint such representatives as it deems necessary to fulfill the goals of the Council as outlines in the Preamble and when requested by groups seeking such Representatives for the purpose of communicating with the Council and student body.

Section 2: Representatives shall be of two types: Permanent and Special.

Permanent representatives are those representatives who serve with the various intramural committees or extramural organizations for the express purpose of representing the Tufts Medical School student body to said committees and organizations.

Permanent representatives shall be appointed by the Council at the beginning of each year (i.e., in May or September) or at any time when a vacancy exists, for a term of one year, or until the following May.

Permanent representatives shall be appointed to each of the following groups:
A: Medical School Executive Council (see Article III, Section 1)
B: Medical Alumni Executive Council (one appointed fourth year
Representative and three elected student Representatives)
C: AAMC-Organizations Student Representative (OSR) (see this Article, Section 3)
D: Admissions Committee
E: Curriculum Committee (See Article VI, Section 2)
F: Financial Aid Advisory Committee
G: Library Advisory Committee
H Student Evaluations and Promotions Committee (see Section 5)
I: Student Ethics Committee (See Article VI, Section 2)
J: Faculty Development Committee

Section 3: Selection of the AAMC-Organizations Student Representative (OSR) representative shall be carried out as follows in even numbered years:
A: After the seating of the First Year officers, the current OSR representative will make a brief presentation to the first year class explaining his or her other duties and responsibilities.
B: The first year Council Members would be asked to submit tot he Council the names of interested candidates for the position.
C: Said nominees would make an appropriate presentation to the Council outlining their interests and qualifications for the position.
D: Based on said presentations, the Council shall then choose candidates to serve as Representative for a period of two and a half years (i.e., until December), so as to ensure a one semester overlap of terms between the incoming and the outgoing representatives.
E: Final candidates shall be subject to final approval by the Dean of Student Affairs.

Section 4: Selection of the 4th year Student Alumni Council Representative, the Admissions Committee Representative and the Evaluations and Promotions Committee Representative shall take place each year and shall take place as follows:
A: The SC President shall publicize the indicated positions to the 3rd yr class in the Spring of each academic year, and accept nominations for a minimum of one week.
B: 3rd yr Nominees will make an appropriate presentation to the Council outlining their interests and qualifications.
C: Based on said presentations, council members shall choose a fourth year student to serve in each of these three positions for a period of one year.

Section 5: The representative to the Student Evaluation and Promotions Committee shall be a member of the fourth year class, as per the Bylaws of the Faculty.

Section 6: Special Representatives are representatives who are appointed by the Council to participate in Forums or other such events occurring over a limited period of time to represent the Tufts Medical Student Body at such events or to obtain information from such events which, in the opinion of the Council, is of benefit to the student body or the Council.

Section 7: All Representatives shall abide by the Bylaws of the Council in matters of attendance and reporting to the Council and to the student body, and act in accordance with the goals of the Council.

Section 8: The Council shall elect Representatives in accordance with the guidelines provided by organization seeking such representatives when such guidelines exist.
