Fig. 16 Proestrus rats express more CCN5 than metestrus rats. Immunohistochemistry using the specific anti-CCN5 antibody demonstrates high levels of CCN5 throughout the uterus of proestrus rats compared to metestrus animals. This observation is corroborated by Western blot analysis and by quantitative PCR analysis.

Fig. 17 Estrogen but not progesterone stimulates CCN5 in ovariectomized (OVX) rats. Ovariectomized rats were given estrogen in the form of estradiol benzoate (EB), progesterone (P), or both, dissolved in a mineral oil base. Estrogen strongly induced CCN5 expression throughout the uterus, whereas progesterone neither induced CCN5 nor inhibited its induction by estrogen.
