The research in my laboratory can be divided into three main areas: (1) NMR structural analysis, (2) mechanistic studies of serine proteases, and (3) drug design and discovery. The most recent structural analysis work, in collaboration with Dr. Peter Bullock, focuses on the complex between the origin binding domain of SV40 T antigen and origin DNA. The mechanistic studies focus on identifying and evaluating key hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions within serine protease active sites using NMR and site specific mutagenesis. The drug discovery efforts focus on the development of a platform technology for discovering new inhibitors of serine protease and the rationale design of –smarter” synthetic agents for modulating the immune system.
