My laboratory uses NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) spectroscopy to determine high-resolution models for proteins. Molecular agents are designed from these 3-dimensional structures to help develop inhibitor mechanisms underlying major health disorders such as breast and cervical cancer and hemophilia. More specifically, we are examining proteins of the papilloma virus, which cause both the common wart and cervical cancer. We also are studying the EH domain from a protein that links endocytosis of the EGF receptor to signal transduction through the Ras and Ral oncoprotein pathways. Another project seeks the 3-dimensional structures for membrane-binding domains of blood clotting factors.
