My major focus at present is clinical cytogenetics. My lab at New England Medical Center handles all types of specimens for karyotype analysis, including amniotic fluids, bone marrow aspirates, peripheral bloods, skins, and tumors. In addition to classical cytogenetic techniques, we also use fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) in our work. It is particularly useful as a tool in the confirmation of the identity of abnormal chromosomes and is a rapid way to monitor the progress of patients with leukemia.
