My laboratory focuses its research on psoriasis and is particularly
interested in therapeutics that lessen the impact of this disease.
Psoriasis is a life-long chronic inflammatory skin disorder
that afflicts about 5 million people in the United States.
Although the precise mechanisms behind the disease remain unknown,
inappropriate immune function leads to increased generation
of skin cells that cause painful skin lesions anywhere on the
body. We have conducted clinical trials testing the efficacy
of several recombinant therapeutics and are also exploring
the basic mechanisms by which these treatments ameliorate the
condition.
