Synapses are specialized contact sites between neurons and their targets that function in rapid information processing in the nervous system. Detailed understanding of synapse formation is essential due to their critical role in intercellular communication and the dire consequences of synaptic pathology as seen in several neurological disorders. Our lab is identifying in vivo molecular mechanisms that mediate the proper formation and function of interneuronal synapses.
