We wish to understand how growth-promoting and antigenic signals regulate gene expression. Although deregulation of growth promoting enzymes, known as kinases, is associated with cancer and immune deficiency such as X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA), it is not clear whether or how these kinases bring about changes in gene expression. To better understand the cause of these diseases, my laboratory is specifically interested in elucidating the mechanism of action of a transcription factor, TFII-I, that regulates gene expression in response to growth-promoting and antigenic signals.
