Interests of the laboratory are focused on the mannose 6-phosphate recognition system and its role in normal and disease-related processes. Contributions include isolation and characterization of mannose 6-phosphate receptors, determination of the molecular basis for mannose phosphorylation of lysosomal hydrolases and growth factors, and investigation of cellular mechanisms responsible for lysosomal delivery, secretion and endocytosis of cathepsins and other lysosomal proteins. Current investigations are aimed at understanding the basis for involvement of cathepsins and mannose 6-phosphate receptors in tumor growth and metastasis.
