Our research is focused on molecular and population genetics of shrimp and horses. Projects include: developing genetic markers (microsatellites) for creation of a linkage map for shrimp, identifying loci responsible for resistance to Taura Syndrome Virus (TSV) in shrimp, characterizing expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from horse brain and blood cDNA libraries for genome mapping studies, examining genetic diversity in wild and domestic animals (i.e. bald eagle, common loon, shrimp, and horses), and searching for markers associated with environmental toxicant exposure in wildlife (marine shrimp and common loon).
