My research has always focused on the way nutrition influences the immune response. I established my laboratory at the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University in 1984, and am presently a Senior Scientist at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging. I joined the Immunology Graduate Program in 1996. My laboratory has trained numerous students and fellows. Representative trainees are listed below.

The work of the laboratory has been recognized by scientific community by bestowing of several awards from Nutrition and Aging societies to myself as well as to my trainees, invitation to serve on NIH, USDA, and Foundation study sections and advisory boards, present at international and national meetings, serve leadership roles in professional societies, and as the editor on scientific journals. The work of the laboratory has also been highlighted in the major TV, radio and print news organizations.
