I am working to elucidate features of CTX φ transcription regulation that contribute to Vibrio cholerae pathogenesis. I have recently found that the CTX φ-encoded repressor RstR binds cooperatively to three sites in the CTX φ control region. RstR binding results in auto-activation of RstR itself and the co-ordinate repression of numerous CTX φ structural genes. I am currently investigating the possible role of V. cholerae host factors in the regulation of these processes.
