Under physiological conditions, the DNA replication cycle and cell division cycle of bacteria are tightly coordinated processes that ensure equipartition of the genetic material to daughter cells. DNA damage caused by UV light or mitomycin C blocks cell division but not cell growth, which results in filamentation and the appearance of anucleate cells. In regard to the underlying mechanism, intensive studies have been done in Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis . My interest is to investigate the filamentation process in Vibrio cholerae under the SOS response. |
