My project focuses on the conjugative and chromosomally integreative element SXT isolated from Vibrio cholerae. I am interested in understanding how SXT turns its host into a poor recipient for the transfer of a second copy of SXT through a phenomenon termed entry exclusion. I am also trying to understand host chromosomal factors that play a role in the regulation of SXT transfer.
