Qualifying Exam

The Qualifying Exam should be completed by the end of the second year. Each student, in consultation with a faculty committee, chooses a research topic unrelated to the thesis and prepares a written research proposal detailing experiments that address specific questions in the field chosen for this examination. The proposal is then defended in an oral examination.
