Research Interests:
Dr Hibberd is an infectious disease physician, epidemiologist and clinical trialist who is focusing on the interfaces between basic and clinical research as well as clinical research and community based clinical practice, both in the US and internationally. Specifically, her research focuses on the prevention and treatment of respiratory infections and diarrheal disease in the immunocompromised host and in children under age 5. Current studies include testing novel strategies to eradicate antimicrobial resistance using probiotics and Phase I studies of monoclonal antibodies to prevent infectious diseases such as Clostridium difficile and complications of infection with E coli O157:H7, in collaboration with Dr Tzipori at the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr Hibberd also works closely with investigators in India and Peru on community based studies to prevent and treat the two most common causes of mortality in children under age 5 - pneumonia and diarrheal disease.
