Course Requirements

Year 1

The first year curriculum is described in detail at Integrated Studies Program: Core Curriculum.

In June of the first year, students choose their thesis laboratory and program of specialization.

Year 2

Students in Cellular and Molecular Physiology take:

  • Pathobiology
  • Elective Course
  • Journal Club
  • Graduate Seminar
  • Graduate Research

As a requirement for the Ph.D. degree, all students must pass a qualifying examination during their second year. The qualifying examination consists of:

A written research proposal in an area other than the student’s (or thesis advisor’s) primary interest and

An oral defense of the written proposal

Year 3

  • Applied Ethics for Scientists
  • Elective Course
  • Journal Club
  • Graduate Seminar
  • Graduate Research
