Upcoming Social Events (2007-2008)                                    Email Committee Members

Uno De Mayo Party!
Ned Devine's, 7pm, Thursday May 1st. For all the information about this end of year Sackler blowout, please direct your attention here!

Previous Social Events (2007-2008)

Annual Sackler Ski Trip
The now annual ski trip is right around the corner! Although the actual event is at the end of February, there is a deposit required by December 6th. This event has been growing larger and larger ever since the Neuroscience department opened their invitation to the campus 3 years ago. For all the news, info and other details for the event as well as when, where and how to purchase your tickets, see the official Ski Trip Webpage!

Tufts Football Tail-Gate (11-10-07)
Come and support the reasonably impressive, not so superior, NCAA division III Tufts University Jumbos at the Medford Campus' Ellis Oval (same field as the Sackler Relays, where the arrow is) on Saturday the 11th of November for a kick off at 12:30pm. This will be a free event and students are encouraged to come for what promises to be an average football game at best! You'll have to excuse the webmaster's tone here, he went to UT-Austin, where the football team is actually actually respectable (except in the 2008 season it seems!).

Regardless of the score or your commitment to the sport, we're viewing this game as an excuse to socialize with the students. If you're bored and looking for something to do come Saturday, head on up the red line and meet us in the car park of the Ellis field, shown below, and have some fun! We're holding the event as a BYOB (beer) and BYOF (food) and there's a very good chance that someone will bring a grill! Any questions should be directed towards katherine.price@tufts.edu. And we hope to see you there! I believe parking is located just below "talbot St". Type in the coordinate "42.403910, -71.118970" to Google Maps and you will generate this map.

Halloween Costume Party (10-25-07)
The first SGSC sponsored Halloween party is coming up October 25th and is going to be a HUGE deal! We're going to be getting a huge pull for this event because of the location and the cheapness of the ticket and the fact that everyone loves dressing up! We've rented out the FELT nightclub, got a whole floor for ourselves, and will be providing free appetizers for all and free drinks for the first 40-50 people in the door! There will also be a costume contest with some seriously large prizes for the best ($100), second best ($50), and runner up ($25). Its going to be a blast and we're going to have a a problem fitting everyone into the bar. Check out the official Party Website by clicking this LINK!!!

Networking Links

Tufts University - Sackler School Facebook Group
An online community build by the GSC to increase the interactivity between the council and the student body. The group allows for multiple discussion groups to be set up to aid in low level and personal collaborations and serves as a central hub for the Sackler School's students and social networking. Feel free to join up, you must be in the "boston, ma" network to join (its a limited group to protect our privacy) but you can add yourself to this network using the "Networks" pull-down arrow at the top of the Facebook interface. See you online!

Harvard Biotech Club
A well laid out and useful website from the kids over at Harvard designed to increase awareness in biotechnology by providing information about upcoming seminars, career options, networking events, and general information about the field and its potentials.

Career Resources
The Tufts University Career Services website. Perhaps not as specific as one would like, but still incredible useful for fast searching and help making the next big decision.

Biotech Tuesdays

A Boston original, this website aims to forge new collaborations, friendships and comradeships over a cool martini. Check this website for the location and time of the next meeting and to see who will be attending (normally an wide array of industry professionals) so that you can go down, introduce yourself and mingle with other similarly minded individuals. Don't forget your business cards!

The Sackler Blog Spot
A website affiliated with Sackler with the primary goals of students and faculty speaking their mind, asking for favors, aiding in the borrowing of a cup of NaCl or other equipment/reagents and anything else that pops into mind. Registration is free and its well worth checking out what Sackler has to offer that you may not know about...

Official Sackler Business Cards

Before we get started with the links, we'd like to highly recommend picking up some official Sackler business cards, an SGSC exclusive, all of which come with a free air of professionalism and a substantial ego boost for your next poster session or conference. Here's an example (Yours will be much higher resolution):

These cards can be ordered through the school using this form which is to be faxed.

2006-2007 Social Events

Sackler End of Year Gala and Harbor Cruise
The sequel to l2006's popular event featured a better boat, tastier dinner, a DJ playing music from this decade for an all round better experience. Tickets were $30 per person and were on a strictly first come first serve basis. Check the website for details.

Future of Food and Nutrition Conference

The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University held the Future of Food and Nutrition: A Multidisciplinary Graduate Research Conference.
