Counseling/Psychotherapy/Psychiatric
Care
The Student Advisory
and Health Administration Office (SAHA) is a division of Student Affairs
for the Boston and Grafton Health Sciences Campuses. Services provided
by this office are available to the School of Dental Medicine, School of Medicine, Friedman
School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Sackler Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Cummings School
of Veterinary Medicine, and Public Health and Professional Degree Programs'
students. The Health Administration Fee covers services provided by this
office. No medical services are provided by this office.
Counseling/Advice
is available for personal problems, adjustment issues, stress management,
career indecision, and family/interpersonal/relationship issues. (For
psychotherapy and/or psychiatric services, see below.) Appointments can
be arranged in advance by calling 617-636-2700, or in person at Posner
Hall, Room 406, located at 200 Harrison Avenue, Boston. The Director is
available on the Grafton Campus on Tuesdays. The Grafton Campus office is located in the
Administration Building, Room 309-B. Appointments in Grafton can be arranged by calling the number above.
Psychotherapy
can be obtained through outside mental health practitioners and/or
psychiatrists. Students can contact the SAHA Office for assistance in
locating a mental health practitioner (psychologists, social workers,
or psychiatrists). Payment for outside services is the responsibility
of the student. Students enrolled in the student health insurance plan,
Tufts Health Plan (THP), have a $15 co-payment for visits
1-24. (There is no limit on visits for biologically-based mental disorders;
certain mental, behavioral or emotional disorders for children under age
19; and rape-related mental or emotional disorders.) Students can also call
the THP Mental Health Referral number of 1-800-208-9565 for assistance
in locating a therapist by specialty and/or location and/or for written
referral required by the health plan.
Psychiatric
care can be obtained
from outside providers. Payment for outside services is the responsibility
of the student. Assistance in locating a provider is available from the
SAHA Office or by calling the THP Mental Health Referral number
listed above. In addition, Dr. John V. Pruitt, M.D., a THP provider,
serves as the psychiatric consultant for the Health Sciences Campuses.
An appointment with Dr. Pruitt can be arranged by calling 617-357-5542.
His office is located in the Downtown Crossing area at 59 Temple Place,
Suite 400, Boston (a five-minute walk from campus).
Inpatient Psychiatric
care is the responsibility of the student and should be covered, at
least in part, by the student's health insurance plan. The student plan,
Tufts Health Plan, provides full coverage for up to 30 days per
calendar year through a Designated Facility Program, with a $500 co-payment
per admission.
