Counseling/Psychotherapy/Psychiatric CareThe Student Advisory and Health Administration Office (SAHA) is a division of Student Affairs for the Boston and Grafton Health Sciences Campuses. Services provided by this office are available to the Dental School, Medical School, Friedman School of Nutrition, Sackler School of Biomedical Sciences, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and Public Health and Professional Degree Program students. The Health Administration Fee covers services provided by this office. No medical services are provided by this office. Counseling/Advice is available for personal problems, adjustment issues, stress management, career indecision, and family/interpersonal/relationship issues. (For psychotherapy and/or psychiatric services, see below.) Appointments can be arranged in advance by calling 617-636-2700, or in person at Posner Hall, Room 406, located at 200 Harrison Avenue, Boston. The Director is available on the Grafton Campus on Tuesdays. The Grafton Campus office is located in the Administration Building, Room 223B. Appointments in Grafton can be arranged by calling the number above. Psychotherapy can be obtained through outside mental health practitioners and/or psychiatrists. Students can contact the SAHA Office for assistance in locating a mental health practitioner (psychologists, social workers, or psychiatrists). Payment for outside services is the responsibility of the student. Students enrolled in the student health insurance plan, Tufts Health Plan (THP), have a $15 co-payment for visits 1-24. (There is no limit on visits for biologically-based mental disorders; certain mental, behavioral or emotional disorders for children under age 19; and rape-related mental or emotional disorders.) Students can also call the THP Mental Health Referral number of 1-800-208-9565 for assistance in locating a therapist by specialty and/or location and/or for written referral required by the health plan. Psychiatric care can be obtained from outside providers. Payment for outside services is the responsibility of the student. Assistance in locating a provider is available from the SAHA Office or by calling the THP Mental Health Referral number listed above. In addition, Dr. John V. Pruitt, M.D., a THP provider, serves as the psychiatric consultant for the Health Sciences Campuses. An appointment with Dr. Pruitt can be arranged by calling 617-357-5542. His office is located in the Downtown Crossing area at 59 Temple Place, Suite 400, Boston (a five-minute walk from campus). Inpatient Psychiatric care is the responsibility of the student and should be covered, at least in part, by the student's health insurance plan. The student plan, Tufts Health Plan, provides full coverage for up to 60 days per calendar year through a Designated Facility Program, with a $250 co-payment per admission.
