The Talloires Network is building a global movement of civically engaged and socially responsible higher education institutions. We advocate for the expansion of civic engagement activities and promote the most promising practices from our members and others in the field of higher education.The Talloires Network:
Raises the profile of civic engagement in higher education by:
• Recognizing and promoting our members’ civic engagement activities on their institutional profiles and in our communications
• Awarding the annual MacJannet Prize for Global Citizenship to exceptional civic engagement programs
• Writing a book of case studies of higher education institutions that are committed to social responsibility
Shares news and information on the field of civic engagement by:
• Gathering and disseminating the best resources and tools
• Distributing a monthly e-newsletter featuring new publications and resources
• Keeping a blog that highlights civic engagement and Talloires Network news, as well as innovative programs
Assists member institutions with bolstering their civic engagement work by:
• Coordinating a twinning program between institutions in Africa and institutions in the U.S. and U.K. (in progress)
• Building regional capacity by partnering with existing associations around the world, working to establish new networks, and co-sponsoring events, such as faculty training institutes and student workshops
• Providing institutional assessment and planning tools for members’ civic engagement activities
• Notifying our members of grant opportunities for civic engagement programs
Connects administrators, faculty, and staff in our network by:
• Organizing regional and global conferences to share ideas, encourage collaboration, and expand impact
• Providing a list of Civic Engagement Experts, available to share their expertise and answer questions
Engages with students by:
• Appointing Student Peer Advisors, student leaders selected after a competitive application process for their commitment to civic engagement, to share their experiences and assist their peers
• Hosting the Talloires 24 Student Discussion Series, in which students from around the world visit our forum once a month to share ideas and address challenges for their community outreach work
