Toolkits

  • Campus Activism -- Tools for progressive campus activists as part of a network of websites that share information called the Activism Network.
  • Democracy Matters -- Informs and engages college students and communities in efforts to strengthen democracy.

Handbooks

  • The Citizens Handbook -- A handbook designed for community organizing in Vancouver, but could certainly be applied to many other types of organizing, community building, or development work.
  • TakingITGlobal's Guides to Action -- The general guide allows young people to go step-by-step from finding inspiration to evaluating a project and ensuring its sustainability. The site also features guides for taking action on HIV/AIDS, climate change, and the Millennium Development Goals.

Publications

  • Context: For Health Students -- A student-run, online, peer-reviewed journal highlighting the exceptional work of health students in the community and recognizing insightful, well-designed evaluations of student-initiated programs.
  • Critique -- An online journal of critical analysis by students of politics, which welcomes submissions from undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Federalism-e -- A peer-reviewed, on-line journal that publishes undergraduate student papers on the topics of federalism and multi-level governance.

Grants/Opportunities

  • Community Academic Service Entrepreneur (CASE) Grant -- Grants are offered by the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Partnership Foundation  to students whose proposals represent the most innovative ways to serve the community associated with their academic discipline. Eligible countries are the US, UK, South Africa, Germany, and India.
  • DoSomething.org -- A US-based organization offering various small grants and awards for youth civic engagement.
  • The Foundation Center -- A US-based organization with excellent resources on finding potential funders and writing grant proposals and budgets.
  • Grants -- Grant and Fellowship Listings for students/recent graduates.
  • Jenzabar Foundation -- A US-based foundation that offers $5000 Student Leadership Awards recognizing ten student-led campus groups and projects that have made a significant contribution to better the world outside of their institutions of higher education.

Online Communities

  • Students for Humanity -- An online community of students who post relevant news articles, share stories, and find ways to collaborate on civic engagement projects.
  • Taking ITGlobal -- An online social network hosting discussions on global issues and fostering cross-cultural dialogue.
  • Talloires 24 Student Discussion Series -- The Talloires Network hosts a monthly discussion designed for students interested in civic engagement. Topics include strategic planning, marketing, and fundraising.
