Anti-Spam Tool

Proofpoint Inc. is an anti-spam product that acts as a gatekeeper for UIT’s Trumpeter and Exchange email servers. The product inspects more than 200,000 message attributes and has a high degree of success at detecting spam. Once examined, legitimate messages are routed to the recipient’s mailbox while suspected spam is quarantined by Proofpoint.

Proofpoint is automatically enabled for all Tufts email users and requires no configuration or customization to work. Each morning at 9:00, Tufts email users receive a personal digest consisting of one email that contains links to all the messages tagged as spam and quarantined over the past 24 hours. In the rare event that a message marked as spam is legitimate, the message can be released to the inbox with the click of a button. The digest can then be deleted like any other email.

If you would like more information, call the University IT Support Center at 7-3376. You may also visit the UIT Training and Documentation Department website for a list of frequently asked questions or to download a short tip sheet offering a more detailed description of the product and directions on how to opt out if you prefer not to use Proofpoint.
