Wireless Networking

UIT currently provides wireless network services in selected areas on all three campuses. Technically known as Wi-Fi or 802.11b/g, this technology uses radio waves instead of an Ethernet cable to connect a PC or laptop to the Tufts network. Much of the work to date has been to provide coverage in public areas such as the libraries and the Campus Center, as well as in selected outdoor areas. A complete listing of the wireless-enabled locations on the Medford campus can be found as part of the standard campus map.

A similar set of wireless maps for the Boston and Grafton campuses are under development. Over time, wireless coverage will be extended to additional areas, in conjunction with our overall network planning efforts and in coordination with each of the School’s academic plans.

As with all computers that access Tufts network services, you must sign-up (register) your laptop to use the network. To register your laptops' wireless connection, enable wireless while in range of the Tufts wireless network, open your web browser, and follow the Tufts University Network Interface Sign-up (TUNIS) on-screen instructions. Your computer registration will last for one year.
