AWSEAM

A Watershed Semester: Engagement Across the Mystic

A project of the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies and the Tisch College for Citizenship and Public Service on behalf of the Mystic Watershed Collaborative

AWSEAM is a semester-long academic immersion in watershed restoration research, teaching, and service activities. At its core is a combined seminar-internship component addressing Environmental Leadership for Watershed Restoration (CIS 100-99). One or two complementary courses are also taken to more fully expose students to issues and analyses relevant to watershed restoration leadership. Finally, two campus-wide public education events round out the pedagogic and practical engagement. Enrollment is limited to juniors, seniors, and MA/MS candidates (HIGH DEMAND).

AWSEAM is designed to address recommendations of the "Task Force on the Undergraduate Experience Final Report to the Tufts Community" (May 2003) and to enhance diverse impacts of a University civic engagement partnership with the Mystic River Watershed Association, known as the Mystic Watershed Collaborative (MWC). AWSEAM has two complementary aims: first, to provide a developmental and interdisciplinary model of intellectual formation for Tufts students and, second, to further the mission and objectives of the MWC.
