THOMAS M. ALPERIN

 

Tom Alperin is President and Founding Partner of National Development, an interdisciplinary real estate company that provides development, construction, asset management and investment acquisition services. The Newton, Massachusetts-based firm is currently ranked as one of the largest development companies in Massachusetts. National has a diverse product base with major projects in the office, industrial, retail, multi-family, senior housing, hotel and institutional sectors. National Development has developed over 14 million square feet in more than 35 communities throughout eastern Massachusetts, including Medford, Somerville, and Boston.

Prior to joining National Development, Tom worked as a mortgage broker at Meredith & Grew, Inc. He is a frequent speaker on development and financing trends in the real estate market and guest lecturer at MIT, the Harvard Business School, Babson College, and Northeastern University. 

Tom's real estate professional affiliations include serving as past chair and president and current director of the Massachusetts division of the National Association of Industrial & Office Properties (NAIOP), and serving as treasurer and director of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board. Tom is also a member, past chairman and past treasurer of the Massachusetts Assisted Living Association.

Tom's community activities include serving as a trustee of Boston Medical Center and vice chairman and trustee of Hebrew Senior Life. He is also a founder and director of the Worcester Tornadoes, a minor league baseball team. He is a past trustee of Newton Wellesley Hospital and a current overseer of Partners Healthcare System. Tom, who also coaches youth basketball and baseball, was a recent recipient of the B'nai B'rith Distinguished Achievement Award.

Tom graduated from Tufts University in 1981 with a degree in political science. As the winner of the Wendell Phillips Award for oratory in his senior year, he delivered the student commencement address. He is a member of the board of the Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service. Elected to the Tufts University Board of Trustees in 2006, he chairs the Buildings and Grounds Committee and serves on the Executive Committee and the Administration and Finance Committee.

Tom and his wife Marsha, J81, are the parents of three sons, Michael, Jared, and Scott.
