Laurie A. Gabriel

LAURIE A. GABRIEL

Laurie Gabriel recently retired as one of three managing partners at the Boston-based Wellington Management Company, the first woman to be named to this position. She also served as the firm's Director of Global Research and Chair of the Compensation Committee. Dubbed one of the biggest - and quietest - investment firms in Boston with more than US$500 billion in client assets under management, Wellington Management serves as an investment advisor to approximately 1,500 institutions located in over 40 countries. The firm recently tied for 27th place among the top 100 hedge funds in the country, according to the annual ranking by Alpha Magazine.

Laurie joined Wellington Management in 1976 upon graduation from Tufts University where she earned a degree in Economics, magna cum laude. She has held a number of positions in the firm, including equity portfolio manager, Director of Quantitative Research, and relationship manager. She was elected as a Managing Partner in 1999. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst and has been President of the Quantitative Discussion Group and the Boston Security Analysts Society.

Laurie currently serves as President of the Appalachian Mountain Club and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Mount Washington Observatory. She also actively supports the Nature Conservancy, the Massachusetts Audubon Society, and the Museum of Fine Arts.

An active member of the Tufts Alumni Council during the 1980's, Laurie is now an emeritus member of the Council. She regularly participates on her Tufts class reunion committees.
