SHARON M. HALVERSON
Sharon Halverson is the former Executive Director of the Port Chester/Town of Rye, New York Council of Community Service. Under her leadership, the Council coordinated local social services, filled gaps in services through programs and grants, provided community education programs, raised funds for camp scholarships for at risk students, and provided information, referral, transportation services and outreach for senior citizens. The Council is a United Way funded program. Until her move to the Washington D.C. metro area, she was also an active volunteer for a number of community and school-based organizations. Currently Sharon volunteers at Alive House which provides transitional housing for families.
Sharon is the recipient of a number of honors and awards, including the Tufts University Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award, 2001; Port Chester (NY) Community Service Award; Rye Brook (NY) Mayor's Community Service Award; Westchester County (NY) Board of Legislator's Community Service Award; and the Proclamation of Sharon Halverson Day in the County of Westchester (NY).
Sharon earned a B.A. from Tufts University in 1965. She was elected to the Tufts Alumni Council in 1977 and has served actively in numerous leadership capacities including director, regional vice president, administrative vice president, and chair of several committees. She is a member of the Sylvanus Packard Society, the Presidents Circle, and a volunteer for the Tufts Alumni Admissions Program (TAAP). She was elected to the Tufts Board of Trustees in 2004 and currently serves on the Academic Affairs Committee.
Sharon and her husband, James Halverson, an attorney, live in Florida and Minnesota and have a son, J. Thomas, and a daughter Andrea.
