Jane C. I. Hirsh

JANE C. I. HIRSH

Jane Hirsh is a partner and director of SeaChain, LLC, a real estate development firm formed for the purpose of transforming the former Hingham Shipyard into a mixed-use community and making it more accessible to the public. Eventually the Shipyard will include marinas, restaurants, retail shops, residential units, offices, and a movie theater. Currently Jane, together with her husband, Dr. Mark Hirsh, owns and operates the Hingham Shipyard Marinas at the site.

Prior to her work at SeaChain, Jane founded and led two highly successful pharmaceutical firms.

In 1972, she founded Copley Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a developer, manufacturer and marketer of generic and over-the-counter pharmaceutical products. In 1993, Hoechst AG acquired a majority interest in Copley, and in 1999 the firm was sold to Teva Pharmaceuticals.

In 2002, she co-founded Collegium Pharmaceutical, Inc, a company dedicated to the development of proprietary, late-stage pharmaceutical products that add market value and clinical benefit to existing drugs.

Ms. Hirsh began her career as a pharmacist at Massachusetts General Hospital after earning a B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut in 1965. During her eight years of hands-on experience there, she recognized the need and the market opportunities for producers of generic pharmaceuticals, and in 1972 she founded Copley Pharmaceuticals, Inc. She is a Director of Dental Domain.com, an e-commerce internet company, and member of the President's Circle of the National Academy of Sciences.

In 1993, Jane Hirsh was listed as one of the "Ten Most Admired Women Managers in America" in Working Woman magazine. She was also named New England Entrepreneur of the Year. She received the Alumni Association Distinguished Award from the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy. She was elected to the Tufts Board of Trustees in 1999 and currently chairs the Audit Committee and is a member of the Administration and Finance Committee, and the Board of Overseers for the School of Medicine. She also served on the Presidential Review Committee in 2005-2006.
