WILLIAM R. O'REILLY, JR.
Bill O'Reilly is a senior partner at the law firm of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP in Boston, where he serves as Vice Chair of the firm's Real Estate Department. The former Hale and Dorr, a firm of 500 attorneys, recently doubled its size in a merger, effective May 31, 2004, with a prominent Washington D.C. firm. Mr. O'Reilly has a broad background in real estate finance, investment, and development; substantial experience in multi-state credit tenant lease transactions, and related commercial mortgage-backed securities financings. He has been counsel to one of the country's largest pension advisors in acquisitions, dispositions and financings of office, retail, industrial and multi-family properties throughout the U.S. In addition to representing life insurance companies, pension funds, and commercial banks in mortgage lending transactions, he has worked with developers and owners on such projects as telecommunication facilities, shopping malls, office towers, suburban office parks, corporate headquarters, and museum and classroom buildings for nonprofit institutions.
A member of the American, Massachusetts, and Boston Bar Associations, Mr. O'Reilly was elected in 2002 to the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. He has lectured and written on real estate law for the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education Foundation. He is a member of the Real Estate Finance Association of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board, the Urban Land Institute, and the Pension Real Estate Association. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America. He is a former elected Town Meeting Member of Wellesley, Massachusetts and Little League baseball coach.
Mr. O'Reilly earned a B.A. from Tufts in 1977 and a J.D. from Georgetown University in 1980. A longtime member of the Tufts Alumni Council, he has served in numerous volunteer capacities, including founding member of the Boston Tufts Alliance. During his presidency of the Tufts University Alumni Association in 2000-02, he served as a member of the Trustee Presidential Search Committee. In 2004 he received the Tufts University Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award. He was elected to the Tufts Board of Trustees in 2004 and currently chairs the Committee on Trusteeship and serves on the Executive Committee, the Committee for University Advancement, and the Buildings and Grounds Committee.
