JUDITH L. VAITUKAITIS
Judith Vaitukaitis recently retired as Director of the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), one of the 27 components of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The NCRR is responsible for developing critical research technologies and providing cost-effective, multi-disciplinary resources for more than 35,000 biomedical investigators across the spectrum of NIH-supported research activities. Dr. Vaitukaitis joined NIH in 1986 and directed the NCRR's General Clinical Research Centers Program before being named Deputy Director. She became Director in 1993.
Prior to joining NIH, Dr. Vaitukaitis was a member of the faculty at Boston University School of Medicine from 1974 to 1986, where she conducted basic and clinical research studies in reproductive endocrinology.
Dr. Vaitukaitis has published over 160 scientific papers and edited a book, Clinical Reproductive Neuroendocrinology. She has served on numerous editorial boards, advisory boards, and committees. She is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, Association of American Physicians, the Endocrine Society and the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Vaitukaitis earned a B.S. from Tufts University in 1962 and an M.D. from Boston University in 1966.She is the recipient of the Boston University Distinguished Alumna Award and the Presidential Meritorious Executive Rank Award. She was elected to the Tufts Board of Trustees in 1998 and currently serves on the Academic Affairs Committee, the Honorary Degree Committee, and the Board of Overseers for the School of Medicine.
